Rene' Carcan (1925-1993) was a well-listed Belgian print maker, sculptor and jewelry designer. He studied under many prominent engravers including Johnny Friedlander and his work is often associated with the art of Graciela Rodo Boulanger. Carcan studied at the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Belgium and St. Josse Noode. He developed an artistic style comparable to Henri Matisse in which a vision is distilled into an essential essence. His use of color was influenced by Wassily Kandi...nsky and Paul Klee. The artist won several UNESCO fellowships including one in Rome and one in Florence. In the early 60's, he spent several years in Paris perfecting his printmaking technique at Johnny Friedlander's Atelier. His artwork has a dreamy, surreal quality about it and earthtones often predominate. His artwork can be found in many important collections and museums and his former studio is now the Rene Carcan Museum for preservation and study of his lifeworks and for promoting the work of upcoming graphic artists.  This piece comes from a the collection entitled Les Fleurs du Soleil. The artwork is signed in pencil and is numbered XVIII/L (18/50).  And it also has the original folio cover affixed to the back of the frame.  The title of the work is "La Soleil al la Campanule" meaning the sun has the bellflower.  This piece is conservation framed in an exquisite/understated form. The approximate size of the image is 9.5 in. X 7.75 in. and 19.75 in. X 15.25 in. overall.  The colors are bright and very appealing yielding a statement to any decor.
