Wonderful painting of 19th c. Italian woman folk costume set to the backdrop of a village. She is holding a reel of wool. The painting is masterfully done. You can almost feel the fabric of her clothing and the texture of the pottery. This was once framed in a large frame, from which it was removed. It needs an "arched" matte (as can be seen in painting, it must have had a rounded top matte at one time). The painting is in excellent condition and measure 15" wide by 19 1/2" high. It is... signed on the bottom left in black ink or paint, what looks to be F. Smith. I was told that Smith was a 19th c. British painter. Can't verify that. There are numbers on the back ... may have been in a gallery at one time? I don't know what those numbers mean.
