F. Machetanz (1908-2002) is a well known American artist whose works hang in museums including the Smithsonian and in private collections. Recognized for his Alaskan and Northern themed art work, he was named American Artist of the year in 1981 by American Artist Magazine and Alaskan of the Year in 1977. Original oil on board self portrait signed by F. Machetanz.
Believed to have been acquired by family at an Ohio estate sale in the 1990s.
Frame is possibly a new addition and back dust cover is ripped revealing the board in places.
The painting measures approximately 21" wide by 22 1/2" tall including the frame, the portrait 15 1/4" wide by 17" tall. There are minor surface marks.
