Antique Red Shell Boulle Mantel Clock With Ormolu Mounts J W Benson London.
This lovely antique boulle / ormolu mantel clock has a wonderful hour glass shaped case with the front and sides coved in a red tortoiseshell veneer, and the back being ebonised. The top of the case is then shaped with a cast floral finial to the top leading to a shaped brass moulding to the sides. The front of the case then has a maidens head mount to the top leading to further shaped brass mounts to th...e edges, front, and bottom. Finally the case is finished by four wonderful shaped brass feet. The clock dial is then enamel and set out in black roman numerals for the hours with outer Arabic numerals marking the minutes. The centre of the dial is then signed by the famous retailer “J.W.BENSON 25 OLD BOND ST LONDON”. Finally the dial is finished with two shaped, blued steel fingers, as well as a domed and bevelled glass set into a shaped brass bezel.The movement is then French and is ticking away and chiming as it should. It chimes once on the half past as well as the number of hours on the hour. It is complete with its pendulum and key.
It measures approximately:- 12” / 30.5cm Tall.- 6.25” / 16cm Wide. - 3.75” / 9.5cm Deep.
Please note that there are a few small marks commensurate with age as well as some small chips around the winding hole, although this does not detract from the piece at all.
