Up for auction is this lovely antique Victorian children's puzzle toy. These are wooden blocks with chromolithograph scenes on each of the six sides. A set of 20 blocks, each 1 3/4" square, with separate paper images (each 7 1/4" by 9 1/4") showing five of the six puzzle scenes (sixth scene is on the cover), all housed in the original wooden box with sliding lid. All complete. Box measures 8 1/4" by 10 1/4" by 2 1/2" deep. No manufacturer's label. Likely dates to the ...late 1800s.
Condition: Fair plus used condition, coming from a smoke-free, pet-free environment. Well loved and much played with set -- edge wear and some paper loss to all images and blocks; separate paper images have some/much paper loss, chipping, creases and tears (see photos). Box and lid have extreme wear -- much corner and edge wear, image on the lid has much wear, general surface wear, long breaks on the lid (reverse side has been repaired with tape and glue) and on the bottom of the box, which has been repaired with nails).
