This auction is for an incredible unrestored Swirled Philco Tube Radio Model 51-930 with half moon gold dial and machine age design. Introduced in 1950 in a brown Bakelite cabinet, then later offered in 1951 with 3 cabinet options: Brown Bakelite, painted gray or White. However, this one of a kind radio is not painted and instead has a striking swirled gray and white cabinet that I believe to be the only one that exists. In over 20+ years of collecting this is the only one I’ve seen ...and has been quite the conversation piece. I’m not sure if it was intentionally made this way by or for an employee or if it was a mistake in the molding process that was never caught by QA. Either way it’s beautiful and I’m glad it exists. The radio powers up and tubes light but has a loud hum so it will likely need to be recapped in order to play. The inside chassis has plenty of dust and is in original, untouched condition. The cabinet is in excellent shape with just two very small hairlines on each side of the speaker grill opening as shown in the last two pictures. The brass is very shiny with some slight tarnishing. This radio will surely make a terrific addition to any collection!
