Up for auction is a rare gem: A poster distributed in 2000 to the press to promote The Simpsons 250th Episode, "A Tale of Two Springfields, " (Season 12 Episode 2). To celebrate the milestone episode, legendary rockers, The Who, were drawn to Springfield as special guests. The Poster is a tongue-in-cheek recreation of the famous iconic image seen on the band's 1979 album "The Kids Are Alright." Animated versions of John Entwisle, Roger Daltrey and Peter Townshend are seen wrapped in a Union Jack with a look of horror etched on their faces as they gaze upon Homer Simpson, who is also huddled under the British flag, but sound asleep and drooling. (The image stands as a playful tribute to The Who member who's missing: the late drummer Keith Moon. This poster is the only place this image was used.) The bottom has "The Simpsons" logo and the date of the episode: November 5.
This full color poster is a nice large size: 47 x 27 inches and been stored in a sturdy tube since seller acquired it directly from the Fox Publicity dept. about 20 years ago. It is heavy paper stock and it has never been displayed.
ABOUT THE EPISODE "A Tale of Two Springfields": The Who play in Springfield and help Homer destroy the wall dividing "Olde Springfield" and "New Springfield." Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle voiced themselves. Pete Townshend was voiced by his brother Paul Townshend. In the episode, the drummer (who only appears briefly and doesn't speak) is animated to look like Keith Moon, who was the band's original drummer before his death in 1978.
