This listing is for a gently used (and well cared-for) genuine Lie Nielsen No. 85 Cabinet Maker’s Scraper.The woodwork, scraper body, and blade are in pristine condition. The sole has just faint surface scratches. There is zero corrosion present anywhere on the scraper.This is a visually and functionally beautiful tool, made exceptionally well by one of the best in the business. The original no. 85’s are sought-after collectibles, and while this model never caught on in the scrapin...g days of yore to the same level as, say, the no. 80, its benefits are undeniable. It’s a rabbet design, enabling you to scrape right inside the corner of a joint. With a quick turn of the knob and tote bolts, you can cant the controls to one side or the other, enabling you to scrape those hard to reach surfaces without catching your hands on the workpiece. While you’ll find a no. 85 in the shops of seasoned hand tool craftspeople, it’s also more forgiving in use to the novice compared to a no. 80 or card scraper.This unit’s blade is untouched and factory-fresh. The scraper can be used as is (sharpened as you would a normal plane blade) or a burr can be added as would be more traditional.
