Original Description:
This is one beautiful antique cheese box. The date I estimate to be 1840 - 60. The condition is very good, all seams are secured. The top & base are 8" Diameter and 2.5" tall.No restoration, original finish. The top ti carved very nicely. The steam bent side pieces are still very firm and strong.The inside and bottom boards you can see the hand chisel marks. The inside of the side pieces you can see vertical scribe marks made to the inside before they were steamed to allow the... board to bend easier. The joint were the side pieces meet are laced together with pieces of cane.The exterior of the side pieces have beautiful hand carved patterns. The original finish is a beautiful dark, almost ox-blood color with a black patter over it. All original, no restoration. The top has a tight fit to the base. It really only holds together in one position. It will fit together but it is a little bit tight.
