ARTHUR MacARTHUR.
Printed DS: "Arthur MacArthur" as Assistant Adjutant General, 1p, 5¼x7¾. Headquarters Department of Texas, San Antonio, Texas, 1896 October 31. In full: "Special Orders, No. 135. 2. 1st Lieutenant James S. Wilson, Assistant Surgeon, is reli...eved from further temporary duty at Fort Sam Houston, and will return to his station, Camp Eagle Pass, Texas. The travel enjoined is necessary for the public service. By command of Brigadier General Bliss." Arthur MacArthur served in the Civil War and was wounded at Kenesaw Mountain and Franklin. He was Major General of Volunteers in the Spanish-American War, on duty in Havana (1898-1899). After defeating the Philippine insurgent forces of Emilio Aguinaldo in 1899, MacArthur served as Military Governor of the Philippines (1900-1901). Identifying notes (unknown hand) in red at lower and right margins. 2 pinhead-size holes at upper left blank corner. Glue on verso barely shows through. Vertical fold just touches the "A" in Arthur. Overall, fine condition.
