Poster signed by numerous people on the 64th birthday of Jilly Rizzo, a longtime friend and aide to Frank Sinatra and owner of celebrity hangout Jilly's in New York City. Complete with a color caricature of Rizzo. This is a unique piece... from the life of Frank Sinatra and the celebrity scene of New York City!
Poster unsigned. 13¾x21¾ with 7¼x12 color caricature of Rizzo, mounted on cardstock. Captioned: "Happy Last Birthday/in 1981/from all your friends". This poster, was not signed by Sinatra or Rizzo, but was autographed by dozens of guests at Jilly's 64th birthday party, including his wife "Honey", JILLY RIZZO (1917-1992, born Ermenigildo Rizzo in New York City) was a restaurateur and owner of Jilly's, a New York City nightclub and celebrity hangout. Rizzo was a longtime friend and chief aide of Frank Sinatra and had cameos in three of the singer's movies: Tony Rome (1967), The Detective (1968) and the TV movie Contract on Cherry Street (1977). Sinatra even honored Rizzo in his cover of Mrs. Robinson: "And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson/Jilly loves you more than you will know". He appeared on 8 episodes of TV's Laugh-In (1970-1971), and as himself in a few films (Cannonball Run II, 1984). The restaurant was shown in The Manchurian Candidate (1962, also starring Sinatra). Jilly Rizzo married HONEY KING in 1959. Later they co-owned Jilly's South, a Miami night spot. They had one daughter, Abby, whose name has been written by an unknown hand on Jilly Rizzo's collar. Multitalented actor and singer FRANK SINATRA (1915-1998, born Francis Albert Sinatra in Hoboken, New Jersey) won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1953 (as Maggio in From Here to Eternity) and Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal in 1959 ("Come Dance With Me"), 1965 ("It Was a Very Good Year") and 1966 (Strangers in the Night). After being with the Harry James Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey, Sinatra struck out on his own, becoming the hero of a generation of "bobby-soxers". "Old Blue Eyes" was popular in venues from casinos to concert halls, and his renditions of such tunes as My Way and New York, New York are inimitable classics. "The Chairman of the Board" was equally well known for his philanthropies. He was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1970. Lightly toned, soiled and rippled. Stains at bottom edge, which have caused two signatures to bleed. Light tear in bottom left corner. Paper loss at left edge, which touches one signature. Tape residue at bottom edge and on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
