This item is an increasingly hard-to-find brass token (medalet or fob/drop) from the Spanish-American War era. It is listed by token authority Russell Rulau as NON 3, and Rulau dated it to 1898. One side has an image of the Cuban flag, with the words CUBA MUST BE FREE. The other side has a detailed image of the battleship U. S. S. Maine, with the well-known rallying cry REMEMBER THE MAINE. This token was issued with a hole for use as a fob or drop (used as part ...of an event badge). This item was struck very well - with bold, detailed images and bold lettering. The diameter is approximately 3/4" (19 mm), and the composition is brass. This item is in very fine condition, with light actual wear, signs of handling, toning, and some soiling, and it remains fairly bright.
