This is one of two last remaining Russ Heath original *unpublished* panel board art that I bought from Russ personally in 2016 (my other one is also listed on ebay). After these two, I do not have any more panel board scenes from Russ. I also believe that these were the last panel board art that Russ still owned before he passed away. Russ had kindly allowed me to look through his entire collection of remaining art and buy what was left, and these two listed on ebay were the last panel... boards in his home when I bought them.
This is a framed original (NOT a print) Russ Heath panel board painting for the comic Punisher War Zone, intended as page 16 of the issue.
I wish I had asked Russ for more details about this; this drawing is just so cool and so iconic of his style, but I have researched this and believe it is one of three unpublished pages of an issue of Punisher WarZone (one of the three I sold already). The original pencil dialogue is still visible and the scene is a depiction of the hunt for Pancho Villa; it may have been that this was too controversial to make it into print, particularly because of the scene of two bandito bodies on the hood of the car. In any case, this is the only one of these in existence, a beautifully illustrated testament to Russ Heath's talent as a pencil and ink artist, and also the only panel art of the original page 16 of the issue that was actually published.
This is an original Russ Heath drawing on the original panel board. I can verify that I bought this from Russ personally in his home (though it will be obvious that, as an original, nobody but Russ could have created this). As can be seen from the pics, this panel was intended for the 16th page of a Punisher War Zone issue (although I have been unable to determine which issue, unfortunately. Nevertheless, this is one of two remaining Russ Heath original panel board art that I had the privilege to buy from him).
This is a framed original with an acrylic glass (so it won't break during shipment). I have sold other Russ prints and originals and have packed them so well that they have all arrived safely. I always pack them with packing peanuts and wrapped in protective wrapping. This item, because it is a one-of-a-kind, includes insurance.
