Original Description:
This is part of the flagship that the Spanish Admiral used in the Battle of Santiago Bay. The ship was the Maria Teresa. This appears to be brass. Although it is small, it weighs 6-7 oz. It has an old and pleasing patina. I imagine this was made right after the SA War. I don't know if the name, N. Allen, on the back is the maker of the keepsake, or maybe in the US Navy. Some of our capital ships gave the Maria Teresa a beating and the Spanish ship was grounded. 80% of the shi...p's 140mm guns ammunition was defective. Perhaps this keepsake was made from brass shell casings? I have found other mementos online regarding this ship.
