which was one of the largest calendar and advertising companies in America.
It was marked "G.B. Co. Joliet ILL." rather then "Capitol Lighter".This is very similar to the Capitol Lighter that was manufactured between 1927 and 1931 by
"Steele and Johnson in Waterbury" (Connecticut) in the United States of America. This unusual... table lighter features a mechanical snap up levered mechanism. The mechanism as well the design of the lighter were invented and patented on
the 10th of March 1925 (patent no. AT99438) by Josef Kluss of Vienna in Austria. The original design for this lighter was by Josef Kluss who patented it in Austria (see Austrian patent) in
1925 (filed 11/07/1923), but not in the U.S. Steele & Johnson Mfg. of Waterbury CT produced the lighter
in the U.S. as the Capitol Lighter and used an old U.S. patent (Sept 17, 2012) which had similarities but was
not the same. So the 'real patent' for this lighter is the 1925 Austrian patent, not the 1912 US patent. This automatic petrol lighter is one of the most desired lighters by
collectors because of the fairly complicated and interesting mechanism. Also the choice of finishes was quite impressive: plain brass, bronze, nickel plate and
painted in three basic colors: red, green and yellow which was the most common one). This lighter is finished in bronze and the mechanism works perfectly. It is in incredible condition with great patina! This does not include a base. THIS IS A PART OF A 45 YEAR INCREDIBLE LIGHTER COLLECTION!(1950 TO 1995) I WILL BE LISTING OVER 700 COLLECTIBLE LIGHTERS OVER THE COMING MONTHS, SO PLEASE WATCH MY AUCTIONS: theAutoist
