Item History & Price

Information:
Reference Number: Avaluer:27183327
Original Description:
This is one of 2 experimental prototypes that will be auctioned off on eBay starting from $1.  ZRC stands for Z80-RAM-CPLD.  It is similar to ZRCC that's also on my eBay auction right now, except the CPLD (EPM7128S) is twice as large as the CPLD of ZRCC and the RAM (2meg x 8) is 16 times larger.  ZRC is designed specifically to run Wayne Warthen's excellent ROMWBW which requires 1 meg of memory.  This version of ZRC includes the optional compact disk interface so RO...MWBW will boot up quickly.

For people unfamiliar with ROMWBW, it is a collection of software for Z80/Z180 organized as configurable software package for different retro computers.  ROMWBW contains a system monitor, CP/M2.2 ZSDOS operating systems, ROM BASIC (Nascom BASIC and Tasty BASIC) and ROM Forth.  More information about ROMWBW can be found on GitHub, https://github.com/wwarthen/RomWBW
The following is the features of ZRC
Z80 at 14.7MHz    2 meg x 8 DRAM    EPM7128SQC100 CPLD with the following functions:        Emulate MC6850 serial port        DRAM controller        64 banks of 32K RAM        Glue logic    Compact Flash interface    RC2014 Bus Interface    I2C Bus    8 WS2812B RGB LED (Not populated, currently not functional)
    Inexpensive 2-layer PC board
All design information are released here: https://www.retrobrewcomputers.org/doku.php?id=builderpages:plasmo:zrc

ZRC is experimental for several reasons:
It explores novel, experimental bootstrap methodZRC's development status is unknown, there may only be 6 prototypes like this.ZRC hardware and software are still evolving.  There are room available on CPLD for additional functions and only 50% of the 2meg RAM is utilized.ZRC prototype is consists of new and salvaged parts.  Z80 is a new part but 2meg DRAM is salvaged from SIMM memory stick, the compact flash is recycled disk and CPLD is surplus from a company went out of business.
Because of the experimental nature, I've extend the return period to 60 days, please feel free to return for full refund for any reasons.

The overall dimension of the board is 2" x 8".  It draws about 200mA at 5V, typical.  This item is fully assembled and tested with ROMWBW software installed in the 64 meg CF drive.  It is ready to run with external 5V power through the included USB power cable and the USB-to-serial adapter.  Set the terminal emulation to 115200 N-8-1, hardware handshake.

You will receive the item in the first 2 photos of this auction including the compact flash disk, USB-to-serial adapter and USB-to-2.5mmX2.1mm power cable.
