The world lost one of the truly greats when Poul Ilsted passed away in 2017. One of Denmark's finest high grade pipe carvers his work was always exceptional as he mastered both classic and Danish designs with many revered as some of the best ever made. This is a very early piece from Paul, a "handcut" straight blast Pot showing Cognac characteristics. The bowl is wide and tapers a bit towards the rim with a wide chamber. Base is somewhat flat allowing the pipe to sit by itself while th...e shank is long and round. Lightweight at only 30g it is very well balanced. Stem is vulcanite fishtail and appears to be original. Finish is like a Dunhill Shell, dark with red accents will the blast displays 360 degree uniform ring grain. While this pipe has been well loved showing some wear, the chamber remains clean, crisp and sound. A fantastic pipe from one of the Masters!

Condition: Very Good. Chamber is well kept, clean and sound. Finish has some scratches and the blast shows a touch of wear. Stem has some small worn lines near the creases of the bit. Weight: 30g
