Fabulous 19th Century Colonial Brass Banded Mahogany Campaign Tea Caddy This is a tea caddy that we date to the second half of the 19th Century; say 1850 through to the 1880s. It is a campaign piece likely to have been made in India, for an officer’s mess, during one of British Army campaigns.It appears to be made using a hard timber that we identify as being indigenous Mahogany; typical of Anglo-Indian work of the period. It is a rectangular shape with rounded ends. The ends are ba...nded for strength against the rigours of campaigning. There is a brass escutcheon to the top and a brass lock to the front (no key).The inner area is zinc paper lined; the dividers and individual boxes are missing. It is in good antique condition worthy of restoration. The French polish finish needs a light sand with a fine grain that will wax polish beautifully. This has been left to the new owners preference and expertise.
