Beswick painted ceramic figurine. Doberman Model No.3121. Designer was Alan Maslankowski. Measures 5.25 inches high by 6.5 incheslong. Produced from 1988 to 1989. This figurine is the EXACT one shown and referenced in the book, The History of theDoberman Pinscher as Depicted Through Collectibles, Art and Literature in theLiterature, shown on page 286. Any white spots are reflections from thelighting.The John Beswick Pottery Company was founded in thelate 1890s as a tableware manufactur...er. Forty years after the company hadestablished itself as a major ceramics player, Beswick turned to creating ceramicanimal models. At first, these models focused on popular dogs and race horsesof the time. These animal figurines featured very lifelike expressions, andthey quickly became favored gift items. An animal from the Beswick menageriehas a personality that almost belies the fact it is made from pottery andpaint. This house style, perfected over many decades, also made Beswick theideal company to take on the production of some of the best-loved animalcharacters in literature.John Wright Beswick died in 1920, and his son Johntook over until his own death in 1934. John Ewart Beswick then inherited the firmand hired talented artists. When John Ewart Beswick retired in 1969, the firmwas purchased by the Royal Doulton Co.All Beswick figures are marked with the words “Beswick”and “England, ” with the exception of figurines too small to hold both words. Everypiece made since 1933 was assigned a model number which is often impressed onthe bottom of the piece.
