1970 Martin D12 - 35 Vintage Acoustic Guitar
Item History & Price
1970 D-12-35 This showroom quality 1970 CF Martin D-12-35 12-string (Serial# 259257) is doubly collectible in Chicago - or to a former Chicagoan! It was originally purchased at the now-defunct Chicago Guitar Gallery - sticker is still on the case! I picked it up in the '90s from another guitar store there, a client of mine, and it is my understanding that I am only the second owner. INCLUDED is the paperwork from Martin to the original owner in Palatine! Also included is a letter ...from Martin documenting a factory neck reset and action correction in 1990. As you can see from the photos, there is no sign of damage, not even every-day wear and tear. Because I now live in Arizona, I did have the pick guard professionally re-glued (dry weather) by a luthier several years ago. There has been no issue with that job. I also keep my house humidified against any recurrence to any of my guitars. Hand injuries force me to liquidate this beauty. I just can't clamp down on 12 strings any more. The tone and projection are gorgeous. 12-strings were originally considered novelties beneath the likes of Gibson and Martin, but when Blind Lemon Jefferson, Leadbelly (and others) started playing them in the 1920s, these two manufacturers got on board with their typical quality. The history of D-35 models in general is that as rosewood became scarcer, Martin used smaller pieces and thus developed the 3-piece back. I will hand-deliver to anywhere in Illinois, or will professionally ship with a guitar shipment box to anywhere else in the US. Shipping will be charged to the buyer, based on location - ships only to US mainland.
