For your consideration: A.J. McClane's personal Hardy Bros. 3 1/4 inch Bougle fly reel. This vintage Hardy Bros. Bougle fly reel is a wonderful reel on its own but this reel also has an amazing history that comes with it.
This reel was originally owned by A.J. McClane ...who gave the reel to outdoor writer Tom McNally with the one stipulation, that he fish the reel. A.J. McClane was good friends with Bob McNally's Father, sportswriter Tom McNally who had been the outdoors editor for the Chicago Tribune for 35 years. Tom had also been the angling editor for Field & Stream Magazine and the author of over 30 book titles. A.J., Tom and Bob all fished together in Montana and that is where A.J. gave him the reel.
This reel comes with a letter of authenticity written by Bob McNally telling the story of how A.J. gave him the reel. Also included is a picture of A.J., Tom and Bob all sitting together with Bob holding the reel.See photos for letter and photo.

This reel has held a place of honor in my personal collection.
The reel is in great condition retaining most of its original finish. The reel operates perfectly. The line mentioned in the letter was removes because it was binding up the reel. The reel bears the metal Abercrombie & Fitch tag on the inside of the reel - See Photos
The reel is stamped is marked:
MADE BY HARDY BROS. LTD, ALNWICK, ENGLAND.
