Spaj Atkinson Antique Vintage Butterfly Wing And Watercolor Picture. C. 1930. Crinoline woman with dress made of individual butterfly wings that shimmer blue to purple. Picture frame measures 4.5” x 6.5”. Actual picture is just over 3” x 5”. Spaj Atkinson mostly made pictures from butterfly wings. He also painted the occasional watercolour. He was blind in one eye, paralysed in one leg and deaf. His works magnificent and highly detailed and range in size from relatively small t...o six foot in height. His depiction of Catherine of Aragon used 2, 000 butterfly wings. He numbered amongst his collectors Princess Helena Victoria, Mrs Stanley Baldwin, Viscountess Gage and the Marchioness of Cambridge. Gold wood Frame has paint chipped corners and may not be original. Back of frame is taped and I received it that way. Hanging wire intact and in good condition. Antique condition.
