GIANT Vintage WWI - WWII Era Rope Tinder Lighter Trench Art / Store Display? A rare and unusual GIANT rope tinder lighter of unknown origins. Our best guess is that this fully functional piece is either a machine shop made piece of "trench art" or a store display piece. Lighter measures 6 1/8" tall x 1 3/4" wide x 5/8" thick. Tinder rope measures over 3 feet long. We photographed this lighter next to a standard size Zippo lighter to show scale. Zippo lighter is shown for scale only and is not in...cluded in this listing. This lighter does not use lighter fluid and does not create a flame. The sparks created by the flint wheel causes the end of the rope to smolder. The slow burning rope end can be used to light cigarettes and start fires. The rope is extinguished by pulling the smoldering end back into the body of the lighter. This style of lighter was popular during war time, especially in trench warfare, because it gives off very little light, does not require fuel, and is highly wind resistant. Gold tone steel construction. Fully functional lighter uses a standard size lighter flint. Fresh out of a world-class estate lighter collection. Excellent vintage condition with light scratches and handling marks. Tinder wick is lightly charred indicating someone once attempted to use this piece. Lighter sparks perfectly. Sold as-is / as-found.
