Rare and beautiful, ca1950’s Native American Shoshone / Shoshone-Bancock Indian Bead Decorated, Hide Cradleboard / Papoose Carrier. This beautiful, Full Size, mid 20th century Shoshone Cradleboard measures approx. 30" tall and 14" across at its widest point This is a full size, Shoshone Cradleboard large enough to hold an older baby or young toddler.
This beautiful, Cheyenne Cradleboard Cover is thread and sinew sewn and features stylized floral bead decora...tion using colors of red, white, dark green, light green, orange, yellow and amber. The light green and amber beads are Charlotte cut giving the beadwork a shimmering aspect. The Cradleboard cover is made of a thick but supple brain tanned hide and the backboard is made of early, hardwood plywood.
The Cradleboard retains its original rawhide ties and original hide loop hanger of the back.
The Shoshone / Shoshone-Bancock Cradleboard offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original, full size Shoshone Cradleboard, crafted in the mid 20th century. This rare and beautiful, ca1950’s Shoshone Cradleboard is in very good to excellent condition. The hide elements are solid and strong with no damage or repairs of any kind. There is some soiling to the hide and some minor surface wear (apparently from use). The Beadwork is exceptionally well preserved with no loss, damage or repairs of any kind. Overall this Shoshone Cradleboard is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully. All elements of the Cradleboard are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - it is 100% original and very beautiful.
