Invicta Briars were originally "Medway Pipe Repairers", started in Chatham in 1947, then bought by Colin Leeson in 1974, by which time they were considered the premier repairers in the UK. Gradually Pipe-Making became the mainstay of the business, Colin Fromm an artisan carver living and working at that time in Chatham carving high end pipes for Invicta from 1974-1988. Peter Ellam joined Invicta as carver/designer and was already running Invicta by the time of Colin Leeson's death in 2013. The briar of this Freehand is stained a bright tan, and it has Beautiful Birdseye and Straight Graining, the bowl rim crisp and un-marked. There are a few sandpit flaws, un-filled as should be, the stem as usual has no Logo, a non-filter Fishtail inperfect used condition. This is a stunning Invicta!! The bowl needed no reaming but was cleansed anyway, the stem was fully sanitised to make the pipe ready to smoke as soon as you receive it, before the whole pipe was lightly polished and waxed to give the Stunning Finish you can see in the photos. The pipe draws and will smoke perfectly, it sits so comfortably in the hand, beautifully balanced and so so tactile.
