Very early New England type Raymond patented type Chain Stitch antique Sewing Machine 1860s. Unbranded but definately modeled after the very popular and coveted Raymond or Raymond- Nettleton Machine. The theory for not having a brand/makers mark on this particular machine and similar specimens from this era is patent infringment/lawsuits surrounding the design. Companys like Singer and J.G. Folsom produced similar machines to cash in on the new "must have" all across America without us...ing their own name. The paint is mostly there, it is dull in most areas and shiny in some areas. The art is faded but still visible. All the gears work and the wood handle is original (a small split but not detrimental to its function) The needle and the mechanism fully engages. It is suggested that this Machine be taken apart and cleaned professionally. (I did not overly clean it and decided to leave it in the condition it was found). *Note, the thread holder is slightly bend downward (years of mobility) but can be straightened by a qualified professional (soft brass seen in picture #5 and pictures #9) This is a nice example and not seen everyday. Collectable by many. All early New Englanders" deserve a spot in anyones collection!
