Up for auction is a "Vintage 30's Ortega's Hand Woven Wool Chimayo Blanket / Rug Jacket Coat Duster". This is a beautiful, southwestern garment piece. It is in very wearable condition. Would be a great addition to any wardrobe.
Disclaimer** I am not an expert, however in my research I did contact and talk to an expert, Robert Ortega, from Ortega's Weaving in Chamayo, New Mexico. He told me that this piece was made from rugs woven in Chamayo in the 1930's.... The rugs were purchased then taken and made into this piece by Gans Craft in Santa Fe. He said it was an earlier piece, because at that time Ortega's did not make clothing items.**
Description:* Hand woven, wool fabric* Unknown how many rugs were used in its construction* Rich, multiple colors used with a creme background* Collar, fringe, cuff, long-sleeves, overall length falls below the knee* Size: XS - S ?? (since there is no tag to indicate size, email for measurements)
Condition: Please refer to photos. Please ask questions or request additional photos.* No tears at seams* Some small holes, and random "nibbles" (see photo 11)* Stains: 1 on right hand sleeve (see photo 3); 1 small stain on collar* Darker spots in weaving (unknown whether this is a characteristic of the fibers)* Lining and original tags are gone* Some of the fringe at the bottom has been cut (see photo 12)* Some fraying of inside seam binding (see photo 9)
