A stunning antique colonial carved coconut powder flask known as a bugbear, dates to the 18th or 19th century. This particular coconut shell was carved with a nutmeg tree motif throughout its surface. The carver likely lived in the Caribbean, probably Grenada due to the large amount of nutmeg farms there. The artist was very familiar with the nutmeg tree due to the carvings exact and delicate rendering of the tree. What's incredible is the stipple work below the nutmeg motif, there wel...l over a thousand tiny marks in contrasting patterns. No cracks or large chips, normal surface wear from handling.
