This is a top notch quality incense container called KOGO in Japanese. Very artistic, beautiful and rare. It was originally made to be used at tea ceremony. Of course, yo...u can use it in any way with your creative idea.
This was made by an artist Koji Takeda (武田 耕治) .- with his prominent skills around Japanese lacquerware, e.g. makie and raden- using very best quality materials, e.g. Japanese ceder, eggshell of quail, mother of pearl shell, silver and urushi (japan)The result is so stunning. He signed at the bottom of the incense container (photo #7) and at the back of the lid of the wooden box (photo #12).
The main theme (or design) of this incense container is peony flower (photo #1, 2, 4 - 6).Using mother of pearl shell, the artist expressed rainbow (photo #3) and shining stars in the sky (photo #8 - 10).
It is in perfect. No chips or cracks at all. White (shining) parts on photographs are reflection of light, i.e. not an issue.
