It’s not very often that you see women bowling on the frontcover of a national magazine and it was even rarer in 1938 and 1944. That’s whythese 3 vintage magazines are so cool. You’ll be getting all 3 for one lowprice, as I attempt to thin out my magazine collection. Look magazine, Feb. 15, 1938. Look was Life’s biggestcompetitor.&n...bsp; Look was a biweekly put outby Cowles Publishing. This particular Look issue is sealed and I don’t want tobreak the seal – I’ll let the successful buyer do that. It’s clear that thereare some condition issues (and the low price for this lot of three reflectsthat, since Look magazines usually are very expensive). Cover line or thebowling article reads “Expert Shows You How to Bowl.” PIC Magazine, May 23, 1944. Pic was a pulp magazine put out by Street & Smith. It printed risquéphotos of young women. There’s no risqué pictures of Betty Alexander of Detroitwho is demonstrating her bowling delivery to ogling sailors on the cover ofthis PIC magazine. Betty Alexander wasscheduled to appear in the movie Rhapsody in Blue. Bowling was her favoritesport! SEE, March 1944. SEE wasanother pulp magazine, in the style of PIC. The photo shows 19-year-old BettyBrunk Stedman, 1943 Mrs. America. Inside you can find another pic ofBetty. (p. 17 shows a woman showing offher short skirt and her best boxing stance.) I went thru See and Pic and themagazine was intact. As with any pulp magazine, SEE and PIC have flacking.Couldn’t do that for the sealed Look magazine. All of these magazines are theoversize format about 11 x 14
