The area known archaeologically as West Mexico haslong been recognized as a region of beautiful ceramic sculptures, manifestations of a reverence for ancestors and a belief in the power ofsymbolism. These traits are recognized as characteristic of the culturaldevelopment of the region during the period from 300 B.C. to 400 A.D., the timeof the Colima culture. Colim...a is best known for its finely finished redburnished effigies, both of humans and animals, especially dogs, and the solidsmall unburnished figurines, commonly called Colima flats. This beautifullymodeled, solid archaic standing figure is depicted with arms across chest (holding a child?) and wearing a head adornment. It measures 2.5 inches in width by 1.0 inches in depth by 4 inches in height (6.35 cm by 2.54 cm by 10.1 cm). Thefigure shows wear consistent with a Pre-Columbian dating, including obvious wear, but generally is invery good condition. It also comes with a specially designed, hand-made ironmuseum display stand for display. Guaranteed authentic, it would make a superbaddition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics.
