S B MUSSELMAN ANTIQUE JACQUARD COVERLET 1847 MILFORD PA BUCKS COUNTY QUAKERTOWN

Important antique Jacquard Coverlet by S.B. Musselman of Milford, Pa (Bucks County) near Quakertown. This one is numbered, #487 and dated 1844. It was made for Maria Reinhort. Has fringe on 3 sides. Measures 70" wide x 88" long (not including the fringe). Colors in orangy red, blue, tan and green. Small rooster pattern along with shapes and florals.
Great condition for a coverlet 176 years old! Has very little wear to the fringe. Has some separating of the top edge with a few loose... strings hanging. Some light discoloration or staining in a few places. I do see one small split (about 1" long) in the middle that looks like it was repaired another time, years ago. (See last 2 photos for this). That's all I see, but I could have missed something small. No musty smell or no moth ball smells, but does have a slightly "old" smell if you sniff it up close. I found this information about S.B. Samuel Beidler Musselman was born June 9, 1802 to Jacob and Barbara Beidler Musselman in Milford, Bucks Co. PA. He married ca. 1824 Elizabeth Landis (1798-1873). They had eleven children. He died August 7, 1874, in Bucks Co. PA. After 1837 all of his coverlets were seamless.
Also: Samuel B. Musselman (1802-1874) was a prolific coverlet weaver, who eventually moved to Hilltown Township and is buried in the Line Lexington Mennonite Cemetery. The MHC collection includes six jacquard coverlets from his loom, all in shades of red. During peak years, Musselman wove more than one coverlet per week.
