1861, Erhard Junghans had set aside capital to start his own business producing accessories for clocks and subsequently complete clocks. He enlisted his brother Xaver, a cabinetmaker then living in America, to acquire the assembly-line machinery for making clock parts.1866 the first clocks followed.Following the registration as early as 1877 of the first factory trademark, "eagle with flag".But there is good evidence that as far back as 1869 the 5 pointed star with a J was used although not registered until 1882. In 1890 a trademark was again registerd with an 8 point star with the J and company name. After 1900 a date stamp was also stamped along with that trademark. The company further expanded over years merging with other well-known German clockmakers including Lenzkirch, Thomas Haller and Gustav Becker.
