Black, burnished Pre Columbian vessel from ancient Peru. The Chimu people were masters at creating this black, glossy pottery in many different shapes and forms. Body of vessel appears to depict a large sea shell, with the face of a dignitary on the spout. Two frogs on either side of spout, and circular bands around vessel. Degradation to the burnished surface with light... mineral deposits . A very solid and large example of ancient pottery. Purchased years ago at auction, this is part of my personal collection that I am selling to downsize.
