Today we are happy to present for sale an authentic antique Kapala Tibetan Trantic Buddhism skull cap bowl. A kapala (Sanskrit for "skull") or skull-cup is a cup made from a thespian skull and used as a ritual implement (bowl) in both Hindu Tantra and Buddhist Tantra (Vajrayana). Especially in Tibet, they are often carved or elaborately mounted with precious metals and jewels. In Tibetan monasteries a kapala is used as offerings to wrathful deities. The kapala is made from a specially collected and prepared skull. Kapalas are used mainly for esoteric purposes such as rituals. Among the rituals using kapalas are higher tantric meditation to achieve a transcendental state of thought and mind. This genuine skull kapala features a wonderful, time-earned patina and is expertly mounted with a fitted bespoke inner silver-tone metal mount. This rare and precious religious artifact comes from the estate of a local Anthropology professor who traveled extensively in Asia and Africa in the 1950's-1970's. Kapala presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minor wear and patina commensurate with age; metal mount has minor wear and tarnish/oxidation. This rare Kapala skull cap will make an outstanding addition to any fine antique Tibetan and Hindu religious artifact collection...Fresh to the market!
