HAND PAINTED HUTSCHENREUTHER PORCELAIN PLAQUE''Una Gitana'' after Angelo Asti Artist Signed Wagner
Description This auction is for a 100% hand painted Hutschenreuther Porcelain Plaque manufactured in Germany. The subject is "Una Gitana" after a painting by Angelo Asti. Angelo Asti was an Italian artist who became famous in Paris for his beautiful female portraits. His portraits ...are highly sought after and are the subject of many German and Austrian porcelain plaques and portrait plates from this time period. The plaque measures 3½" x 2¾" and is signed on the front by the artist Wagner. The painting is wonderfully executed, and the quality of the painting itself is above average for a plaque of this size. The plaque is impressed on the back with the early Hutschenreuther "HR" inside of a circle, as well as with the number "15, " which denotes the size of the plaque. The plaque originally had a sticker on the back that indicated that the plaque was decorated by the "Max Sinz, Dresden" art studio; however, since purchasing the plaque over 10 years ago, I have misplaced the sticker, which had separated from the back of the plaque. The country of origin, Germany, is also faintly visible on the back of the plaque. The plaque likely dates from the 1893 - 1904 time period based on the subject matter as well as the style of the Hutschenreuther mark. The plaque is framed in a beautiful antique wood frame measuring 9" x 8½". I personally guarantee this plaque to be 100% authentic, over 100 years old, and completely hand painted (not a transfer)! I guarantee this not to be one of the many fake plaques being manufactured/sold, primarily from California, that have sought to saturate and undermine the legitimate KPM market. MEASUREMENTS: Plaque: 3½" x 2¾" (8, 89 cm x 6, 99 cm)Frame: 9" x 8½" CONDITION: This wonderfully decorated portrait plaque is in EXCELLENT condition with a beautiful original glaze. The quality of the painting is well above average for a plaque this size. There are NO cracks, chips or repairs; however, there are two tiny yellow beads missing from the subject's red cap. The beads are so small that I did not note this imperfection until I scrutinized the plaque with a magnifying glass. The missing beads are not noticeable under normal viewing conditions. Any white spots or lines in the photographs are from the flash and are not damage. The frame itself has normal wear but no condition issues.
