Being offered is a nice old antique Borneo Dayak Mandau sword. This sword measures 30 1/4” when measured in its scabbard so a nice larger example. The hair tuft at the end of themhandle would add another 4” to the overall length. The handle is carved from deer staghorn and has a nice glossy mellow patina. Features bold raised carvings to the sides and back of handle. It is missing its rattan wrap. Nice hair tufts at the top of the handle. T...here is a stable wood split to the back of the handle. Very nice blade. Along the top of the blade near the spine is carved decorations. This style of decoration found on older Mandau blades so probably mid to late 19th century. Blade is covered in oxidation but smooth surfaces with just a few spots of pitting on the reverse undecorated side. Nice scabbard with complete intact rattan belt which is not common. The two piece scabbard has one side nicely carved with some rattan wraps. The back is undecorated with the bark pouch which is missing the knife. All in all, a very nice and old Mandau.
