______________You are bidding on a fascinating hand made mid-20th century initiation helmet / mask crafted by the Mende peoples of Sierra Leone and Liberia. The Mende smooth, dark, helmet-shaped masks, are known as sowei and used by the Sande society to initiate young women.       Measures approximately 13" tall ( 9.5 base circumference) | weight is 5 lbs. 4.1 oz | very nice vintage condition / minor stress crack...s / stress crack in an eye / missing a tiny piece of wood behind right cheekSOLD 100% AS IS / AS Pictured
