Reference Number: Avaluer:27504123 | Date of Creation: 1800-1899 |
Subject: Presidental |
This old antique print of Abraham Lincoln was originally engraved by John Sartain (commissioned by painter Edward Dalton Marchant) and published by Bradley and Company in 1864. The image size is approximately 13" X 10", Overall Approx: 14" X 18". The half length portrait shows Lincoln seated at a table, holding a quill, a document beneath his arm that reads "Abraham Lincoln, Jan'y 1st, 1863, William ...H Seward." It references the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, which took effect on that date. Part of the Statue of Liberty is shown at the upper right with a broken chain at her feet, another reference to the emancipation of slaves.Moderate amount of foxing, front and back. With the papers and techniques of that era, this, time aging seems common for this 155 year old engraving/print. Corners are slightly rounded with several tack holes, some slight chipping, and a few very slight edge tears. Some staining. Would frame well and be very presentable. The Last picture is a picture from the 1997 "Collecting Lincoln Price Guide Book" Please note- This last picture is not a picture of the print being auctioned.
