Original Description:
A superb large late 19th / early 20th century antique brooch which is a proper collector’s piece. Contains a hand carved white shell (Queen Conch) cameo depicting a beautiful Maenad a follower of the god Bacchus wearing vines with bunches of grapes in her hair. The cameo is set into a real Whitby Jet frame beautifully carved and polished. On the reverse the pin with early roller safety clasp is in excellent working condition. The over-all condition is superb with no wear or damage.Ca...meo & Frame is 2 ¼ inches x 1 7/8 inches. Weight 35.7gms.All my cameos are being sold from a huge private collection of exquisite pieces assembled over several decades.
