A.H.Robbins Company began in 1885 as an apothecary shop andover the years grew to one of the top five pharmaceutical manufacturers in theUS and abroad. They develops a good lineof prescription and over the counter medications mostly in the low cost end ofthe markets. The Company really grewafter 1949 the company introduced three popular products, Robitussin, anantitussive-expectorant; Pabalate, an antirheumatic; and Entozyme a digestant.The sale of these three products doub...led the profits of the company in oneyear. In 1953 A. H. Robins opened its first manufacturing plant, and also movedthe company headquarters to a new location on Cummings Drive in Richmond, Virginia.Dr. Murphey was a chemist who worked initially at labsrented from the University of Richmond, until the new headquarters were builtin 1953. He developed Robaxin, which was the first product patented by A. H.Robins. The company's first licensed product, in 1956, was Dimetane. In 1969 the company began sale of the DalkonShield, an IUD device, and suspended sales in 1974. This item was the cause of the bankruptciescausing the demise of the Company though some products are still marketed underthe original names. These offerings areall of the original A.H. Robbins company, pre 1987.These three bottles are examples of Robbins cough and cold product line. Dimetane Expectorant DC contained codeine and was classified as an exempt narcotic. Age is 1970-71. Dimetane Expectorant was the same formula without the codeine.Dimacol changed to pseudoephedrine and changed from codeine to the new dextromethorphan cough suppressant.Pleasenote these are vintage collectibles only, these are not safe nor approved forconsumption of any kind.
