This beautiful pair of French La Reine Paris enamel guilloche opera glasses features two hand-painted portraits on a crimson red background. They have a detachable telescoping handle which has a hand-painted cherub.
These opera glasses are in amazingly fine condition. The brass is still pretty bright (we have not polished it at all). The enameling is all intact with no chips whatsoever. There are some faint hairline marks beneath the clearcoat whi...ch I believe are just from aging. The black trim on the inner side of the lens is all perfect with no wear as is typically seen. The handle telescopes perfectly and is removable is desired. The mother of pearl eyepieces are also in perfect condition with the words "La Reine Paris" on both.
The lens are clear and extremely well made and focus perfectly. One of the finest pair I have ever owned (and I have been an avid collector for many years). I paid over $700 for these when I bought them in 2005 ... offering them now well below that with no reserve.
Measure 4" x 1-1/2" x 1-5/8" high when closed. When extended to full length they are 2-1/8" high. The handle goes from 4-1/4" to 8-1/2" when fully extended (photo only shows it partially extended).
