Antique Chinese/Tibet Bronze Figure Of A Buddha Attributes Ca. 18 - 19th Century
Item History & Price
According to the Kagyu lineage, Buddhā Vajradhāra is the primordial Buddha, the Dharmakaya Buddha. He is depicted as dark blue in color, expressing the quintessence of buddhahood itself and representing the essence of the historical Buddha's realization of enlightenment.
This image would have once been 'in yabyum with his Sakti', however, during the destruction of the monasteries in Tibet...(1959-1967) the image has been vandalised deliberately. The Sakti's upper half, which would have been cast separately and attached with a fixing pin, has been removed, and both her feet have been struck off. In this way, the image has been defaced but not destroyed - an act which would have been difficult for a devout Buddhist to perform. This leaves the principal figure, Vajradhara, with a sweet, smiling face, his hands crossed, holding a bell and a dorje, as he is seated in padmasana on his lotus throne. Height: 11.5cm, width of base: 7.5cm
