Item History & Price
CONDITION/DESCRIPTION:
Beautiful and rare antique telescope box estimated from the mid to late 1800's. This box is one of three that came from the Binghamton University Observatory located in Upstate, NY. Other boxes are listed separately. This specific box is the shortest o...ne of the three and has a great looking patina with original hardware, redish colored oak, ornate hardware, and dovetailed joints that help date this back to the mid-to-late 1800's. Wood is very thick at 1/2". The box measures 29.5" long, 9 3/8" deep, and 5 1/4" tall (length measurements do not include handles). The inside of the box has been refinished with shellac, and the blocks have been removed so it can be repurposed in a new creative way! Measures 28 3/8" x 8 1/4" x 4 3/8" on the inside. This is a perfect box to use for storage under your bed, or on a shelf. It is very handsome and has a ton of character....they truly don't make em' like this anymore. Don't end up buying high priced reproductions when you can have an authentic 150-year old antique!
