THIS ANTIQUE DOLL IS ABSOLUTELY NOT IN MINT LIKE NEW CONDITION AND IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. FOR THE ADULT COLLECTOR. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MINT ITEM OR A PLAYTHING FOR A CHILD THIS IS NOT THE LISTING FOR YOU. THANKS!
Here we have an antique late 1800s to early 1900s German bisque doll head, marked Made In Germany, 390, A 2 1/2 M. Blue glass sleep eyes. No wig, cardboard pate. The head measures about 4.5" tall from the neck rim to the crown and about 3" across from ear t...o ear. I THINK this head size would make an 18" tall or so doll nicely...but don't hold me to it. That's up to you. The eyes open and close as they should and the head looks good to me with the naked eye EXCEPT for a chip out of the back of the crown hole that would be covered by a properly attached pate. I have not shined a light inside the head to look for hairline cracks, but I see none with the naked eye. Bid with discretion. The previous owner had glued the pate and a TERRIBLE new synthetic wig down on the head with some sort of very strong glue or epoxy, rather than using simple tacky glue, and I had to fight to get the ugly wig off and remove the pate so I'd be able to stuff the head for shipping. The wig was that horrid super shiny modern saran and looked like something a woman of ill repute would be wearing to a party and I just threw it away. It looked like those super curly wigs on cheap porcelain dolls you find in roadside trucker gift shops. Haha! It was AWFUL and inappropriate for such a pretty antique head and you would not want it, trust me. You will probably want to clean off the glue residue and leftover hair remnants with some sort of solvent. I'll leave that decision to you. Overall this is a lovely antique head that needs a body and could be very pretty for display again after some TLC in the right hands. Thanks for looking!
