Antique Stunning Hand Sewn Chinese Bound Feet Shoes Circa Mid 1800s

Antique pair of Chinese hand sewn embroidered bound feet lady's shoes. Circa 1850s.The original pair of shoes are embroidered with a pink plum blossom branch. Satin and gold thread piping.The heels are lifted .Condition is very good consider they are over 150 years old.Well to do families had their daughter's feet bound when they were two or three years old. The bondage stayed with the girl throughout her life. The feet were deformed and it was said the perfect bound feet sho...uld be about three inches long. The girl grew up staying at home all her life and they needed servants to help them walk or carried when they went out. However the practise made the women swayed when they did walk. This was to entice the attention of a man and considered the woman 'sexy'.I bought this pair of shoes from a grandson of such woman. I bought the whole collection with photographs of the lady wearing the shoes.Very hard to find real original bound feet shoe nowadays. I bought these in Macau in the 1970s.
