Offered in this sale is a vintage Japanese woodblock print by Clifton Karhu that is titled Sanjo - Kyoto circa 1968. Unfortunately it is framed in such a manner that I am unable to see the edition number or artists signature. Normally I would be inclined to remove it from t...he frame, however, the framing is so well done I did not want to disturb the integrity of it so I have left it as is and am selling as is. I reached out to a couple of print dealers who were kind enough to identify the artist and the print. The print was framed in Singapore by Merlin Frame Maker in either 1968 or perhaps 1988. There is a date stamp on the back which you can see illustrated in the 2nd image, however, I cannot make out the year. Overall the piece measures roughly 15 3/4" long x 12 3/4". The visible image is roughly 10 3/4" x 7 3/4". The print appears to have toned and the colors are faded. The examples of this I have found on line are in purple tones whereas this is more blue. I don't know if this is due to the fading or perhaps a piece outside of the run done in a different color palette. Please be sure to enlarge and zoom each image for a close up view of the detail of the decoration and the condition and do not hesitate to send me a message if you have questions or would like additional images. I always guarantee everything that I sell to be as described. This piece is being sold without a reserve as long as there is an opening bid. The shipping cost within the United States is $12.00The last five images illustrate just a few of the many other items I have or will be posting separately for sale on Ebay from several different collections daily throughout the month including a collection of Cuban postcards, a number of original Jean Pierre Gault - St Paul de Vence stoneware miniature Paris buildings, a collection of over forty vintage original blue Cyanotype photographs and real picture postcards as well as more than a one hundred early press and wire photos dating from the early to mid 1900s, a selection of stamps from the personal collection of James Glanville formed when he was a young boy and who was later a founding partner of Lazard Freres, a number of other early Chinese stamped cover letters and stamps, a number of pieces of scenic Staffordshire china, and I am also continuing to post an eclectic mix of antique to contemporary china glass and accessories including flow blue china, Rosenthal porcelain, Scandinavian and Murano art glass, antique photo albums and photographs, as well as other 18th - 20th century American, English, Continental and Chinese ceramics, porcelain, glass and accessories.
