Your chance to own a truly unique (if slightly disturbing) piece of educational history. This anatomical model is molded from wax and mounted inside a wooden box (roughly 13" x 10"). Various features have been carefully hand-painted with impressive attention to detail. It is labeled uninformatively: "9280 Germany" in gold (ALSO HAND PAINTED!) letters on the back and "A1491" in black ink on the interior of the box. I am guessing based on its construction, materials and comparison with o...ther models I found by googling "wax anatomical model germany" that this dates to the late 19th to early 20th century. Unfortunately, with that statement we have plumbed the depths of my turn-of-the-century-medical-esoterica knowledge. Despite it's apparent age, the kidney seems firmly mounted and the box itself is of solid construction. There is considerable heat damage to the lower portion of the model. Pooled wax is visible on the upper surface of the ureter and a hole has opened up near the major calyx. The hole is almost 2" across it's widest point. In addition, some blistering can be seen on the paint in the lower portion of the model. TLDR- This is an interesting old model made of wax. It may be from Germany. It probably won't end up in a museum but might look awfully cool in your living room!
