Very rare and beautiful, ca1900 Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Hide Circular Pouch (sometimes called a “Peyote Pouch”). This outstanding turn of the 20th century Sioux Beaded Pouch measures approx. 6" long overall and 3 1/2" in diameter at the circular, beaded panel. The Circular Pouch is fully beaded on the front side with a wonderful, multi-colored, salt and pepper beadwork.
This wonderful Sioux Pouch is thread sewn of thick but supple, bra...in tanned hide. The multi-colored, seed bead decoration is eye dazzling and the Pouch features a tab style, flap hanger with rawhide strap at the top and a pair of beaded loop drops that attach at the center of the circular decoration.
This Bag was recently deaccessioned from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and sold to benefit the Center’s acquisition fund. There is a Center of the West collection number written in pencil on the inside of the pouch (see the scans below).
The Sioux Beaded Pouch offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original Native American Beaded Pouch crafted around the turn of the 20th century. The Bag comes with our “no questions asked” return privilege and our lifetime guarantee of authenticity. This very rare and original, ca1900 Sioux Bead Decorated Circular Pouch / Peyote Pouch is in very good to excellent condition. All of the hide elements are well preserved - supple and sound with no damage or repairs but with some soiling as seen in the scans below. The beadwork is also exceptionally well preserved with no loss or damage. The Bag retains its original, rawhide belt loop. All elements of the Bag are original and there has been no repairs or restorations.
