I recently purchased a box of paper items from the estate of a retired NASA employee. The box contained NASA related photos, documents, reports and brochures from the 1960's-1980's. Offered here is an 8 by 10 photo of the Apollo 13 astronaut crew. This was released just AFTER the astronauts were brought back safely from their intended mission. The fro...nt of the photograph is marked: "PRIME CREW OF SEVENTH MANNED APOLLO MISSION: JAMES A. LOVELL, JR. - JOHN L. SWIGERT, JR. - FRED W. HAISE, JR." The BACK of the picture reads (in part): "APOLLO 13 CREW - The mission, planned as the third lunar landing, was aborted April 13, 1970...The crew was recovered safely four days later." On the front side, there are VERY convincing autographs by all three crew members. After having it looked at by an expert, I was told they were made by an "autopen." An autopen machine uses a pen to make very realistic signatures, and is much more realistic than a rubber stamp or pre-printed facsimile. Still, since THESE ARE NOT REAL HAND WRITTEN SIGNATURES, the value is only a tiny fraction of real autographs. If you wrote to NASA in the early 1970's, and asked for a signed picture of the Apollo 13 crew, you were probably sent one of THESE, and treasured it, thinking it was authentic. It is still a pretty cool, ACTUAL PERIOD MADE ITEM. The condition is VERY GOOD. There are no creases or pin holes. There is a hint of yellowing to the white background. This photo is guaranteed to be old and original, made and distributed by NASA in the early 1970's. I am here to help you with any questions!!!
